A/N: One day I will finish all of the fics from this meme. One of these days...

There’s a girl sitting on the stoop of his building when he gets home, and she stands up as he gets closer.

He doesn’t think he recognizes her; she looks a little younger than him, dark hair, dark eyes, glasses, but no, he’s pretty sure he doesn’t know her.

“Peter Petrelli?” she says, and he nods. One of her hands goes to the pocket of her jacket as if to pull something out, and then she shakes her head and laughs a little. At herself, more than anything. “I’m Wendy. Watson.”

“Okay,” he says, and the name does sound like something he’s heard before, but he can’t place it.

“Simone gave me the address.”

“Oh,” he manages.

“I’m not a reporter,” she says, a little too quickly. “I was just in the neighborhood and…”

“I’m sorry, I just…don’t really have any idea who you are.”

“I know your…Claude. I know Claude. I mean, I paint, too, and…”

“Okay,” he nods, really not wanting to be rude, but really not wanting to stay outside talking about Claude with anyone, really, but especially someone he doesn’t even know.

“Yeah…” she seems aware that she’s worn out what little welcome he’s capable of giving at the moment, and then her eyes brighten, suddenly. “What’d you get?”

She gestures toward the plastic bag he’s holding, and he’s caught off guard enough to answer. “Uh, video games.”

“You play?”

“Not…really. They’re for my nephews. My brother thinks it’d make him look like a hypocrite if he let them play, but…”

“But you want to be the cool uncle?”

He shrugs. He’s not ashamed of it. Well, mostly not ashamed of it.

“What’d you get them?”

“Gutwrenchers 1, 2, and 3: Combat-“

“Devolved?!” she lets out a squeal at a frequency he didn’t think human beings where capable of. “It’s not even out yet!”

“I know a guy,” he offers, warily, and considers taking a step back.

“Man, you definitely make cool uncle status,” she brings her hand up and it takes him way too long to figure out why. Enough that she laughs and actually has to say, “Come on, high five,” before he does. “I kinda want your brother to adopt me, now.”

“Thank you?” he ventures, and she looks momentarily embarrassed as she clears her throat.

“Look. I know I’m kind of wasting your time out here…”

“No, it’s okay, I-“

“I have his address. If you want it.”

He doesn’t bother asking who she means. “How?”

“I know a guy. Well, technically a couple of guys, from work, and…it’s complicated.”

“Okay,” he nods, slowly, and weighs just how curious he is about said complications. Not that much, not really. “But why would you…you don’t even know me.”

“It’s not for you,” her tone is suddenly a lot more serious than it has been, and that alone makes his mind up for him.

“No thanks,” he says, firmly, and moves to walk past her.

“Look, Peter-“

“It was really nice to meet you, Wendy,” he turns before opening the door. “But I’m not going chase after someone who doesn’t want to be caught.”

“He wants to be, okay, but-“

“He knows where I live,” Peter forces a smile, and she seems to force herself to return it. “But thanks. It was really nice to meet you.”

“Yeah,” she says, and shakes her head. “It was really nice to meet you, too.”
