Oh what a world we live in...

Something rather ridiculous just happened. My mom wanted Akshay to bring up a magazine to me, and obviously not wanting to, he throws from the stairs several feet away from where I am sitting at the computer desk. He then proceeded to hurriedly run over to the spot where it lay, bring it to his forehead, then toss it on the desk besides me.

Well what is wrong with this picture. Hindus believe that books are a form of learning and therefore embody Saraswathi, the goddess of wisdom. To have a book touch the floor, or have it touch you feet is technically considered blasphemy in a weird sort of way. Don't quote me on that. So most times, if a Hindu accidentally "disrespects" a book, they will pick it up and touch it to their foreheads as a way of atoneing for their action.

Obviously Akshay knew it was going to land on the ground. And yet he felt compelled to do this mini-ritualistic action anyways. Im going to therefore conclude that he doesn't really care if it touched the floor, but he does not want "GAWD" to know that he is being disrespectul to books. Lets not forget that he threw it again 2 seconds later, albeit it landed on the desk. Great! 12 years old and my brother is already a hypocrite...
