Dr Who

Well, I have mixed feelings about Who being back. Firstly, its fantastic to see it back & on good form again - Chibnal did his best to kill the show dead with his half-baked 'clever ideas', specifically:

(1) the timeless child

I cannot express just how much I dislike this storyline as it means that:
a) the doctor is not doing good because of any moral choice, but because they are compelled to do good &
b) that there's minimal risk to the doctor as hey, they have an infinite number of regenerations - and can use the regeneration energy to revive a companion (as demonstrated on screen with - if no-one else - Davros in the Witches Familiar).

(2) Flux

Which was a noisy incomprehensible mess from start to end. I've sat through some awful Whos in my time, but there's usually some redeeming feature. An (obviously high-budget) procession of incomprehensible joyless steaming nonsense was worse than the scripts Colin Baker had to put up with at its worst back in the 80's

Its good to see the show funny again.

That said, I am concerned that its just "the greatest hits" - which could well be the point. Whilst I dont know (so all this is just speculation), I suspect that the plot could be that of the celestial toymaker being a sort of 'super fan' forcing the show to relive its greatest moments - hence Tennant, Donna & the meep (originally from a Dr Who comic from the 80's).

So I hope its a lot cleverer than I fear, but even so, it was like a breath of fresh air after the tedious dross that Chibnal pumped out.
