Bicol Trip
ayan nakauwi na rin ako sa aking paglakbay sa Bicol
and sobrang astig ng karanasan
The place called San Isidro (i think its a barangay) was the heaviest hit in the places that we visited, the trail of destruction with blackest sand, a highway cracked into 2 and huge boulders reminiscent of UP's rock garden, literally obliterated 16 houses, ended 30+ lives and made known the story of a hero dog named Pipay. (trying to write here lol)
my eyes were opened to the fact that even psych people can help out in survivors of disasters, and this help is not limited to giving out donations or relief goods but also in debriefing and actually just listening to them.
In Bicol (and I assume in all other areas of calamity) most of the hardcore volunteers there are locals, who themselves are victims too, and they usually forget the traumatic experience when they work. but it is still a bad experience which needs to be processed. Mas maraming bigat ng loob ang ginagawa ng mga volunteers na nawalan at pagod na pagod na sa trabaho, magandang coping mechanism nga ito ngunit madalas nakakalimutan ng mga tao ang kanilang mga katawan... sometimes naisip ko ganyand din ba ako? trabaho lang ng trabaho (or laro) and neglect myself...
its really sad na nagkaroon lang ng sakuna tungkol sa billboards dito at nagkaroon na ng mga batas sa congreso na pinagbabawal ang mga ito, ngunit ang mudslides sa bicol, na masmarami pa ang napinsala, wala pa rin konkretong pulitikal action na ginagawa ang mga kongresista natin...
issue natin sa maynila kung may bagyo ay advance accurate forecasting, traffic, billboards and no classes... at sa Bicol naman ay hanapbuhay, tirahan, pagkain at buhay mismo...
kanina when my dad picked me up from school he raised the question, paano kung magkaroon ng disaster dito sa manila, tutulong ba ang mga tao taga probinsya... napaisip ako roon sa tanong ng tatay ko, paano nga kung nagkaroon ng gigantic lindol o malakas na bagyo rito at nasalanta ang maynila... ano ang gagawin ko
