Last week, while walking home along a tree lined windy road, I saw one of the most brilliantly cute things, ever.
This road has the pavement running slightly lower than the road, the path is quite narrow as it winds between crumbling old warehouses and in places it's wedged between the buildings and a low wall topped by the road. These pockets collect a massive amount of fallen leaves in the crooks and curves.
So, i'm about 20 metres behind a very well groomed gentleman in his mid to late 40s. He positively screamed expensive low key elegance in grey wool and black leather, from his hair to the cut of his suit and his immaculate leather shoes. He's got the determined stride of someone who needs to Be Somewhere and hasn't broken it for the last half a kilometre.
Until we hit the first leaf-filled curve. Instantly, he takes a running leap at the first pile of leaves then continues up the path in a shower of brown and crimson via a series of hops, skips and jumps to ensure maximum leaf scuffing. Suddenly, he has leaves in his hair. They're tangled in his tie, stuck to his pressed trousers, dust is on his shoes and creeping up his cuffs.
He hits the other side and allows himself a 20 second stop to straighten up, brush his clothing down and adjust his tie before resuming his previous 'executive on a mission' stance and off he goes.
It's probably one of those 'you had to be there' moments but I loved it. He's my favourite unknown person of the month.
