Ladies and gentleman, I would be remiss in my journalistic duties if I didn't return to you to discuss the latest political development in what is commonly known as the carnival of presidential candidates:
Stephen Colbert has announced his candidacy.
I have been meaning to write about it, however our internet at the Humboldt Abode is still rather wonky and doesn't like to work... so I spend my nights playing The Simpson's Hit-n-Run on my shiny new game cube. However, I do work for a reputable news organization, and the buzz around here is that he might actually be serious.
Colbert announced his candidacy on Tuesday, and then coyly danced around the subject while being interviewed by Larry King.
Word on the street is that he will only actually campaign in South Carolina--and that he will run in both parties. Getting in on their early primaries would cost Colbert a sum of $37,500 ($2,500 to be on the Democratic ballot, and the remaining $35,000 to run in the Republican primary.) and he would need to get clearance from South Carolina's State Democratic Party's Executive Committee. Colbert will also need to make his move before the end of this month. It will be interesting to see if he will pony up the dough and jump in the ring.
