OotP, IMAX Stylee...

♫ Heaven.
I'm in heaven.
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak.
And I seem to find the happiness I seek,
When I'm at the IMAX, drinkin' beer, watching Harry Potter in 3D!

Yes, Heaven.
I'm in heaven.
And the cares that hung around me through the week,
Seem to vanish like a gambler's lucky streak.
When I'm at the IMAX watching Harry Potter in 3D! ♫

...and drinking beer!

Guys, I am not even kidding. Not only was the theater incredibly designed in a Moulin Rouge theme--complete with fully operational, lit windmill and apartments, but it had a full bar and restaurant and you were allowed to bring your beverages into the theater. And get refills, should you so desire!

But the point is, I am absolutely euphoric right now. I loved OotP when I saw it on the normal screen, but I wept when we saw it on IMAX. I rarely (like, once every three years or less) cry at movies, and I don't cry for no reason. In fact, when viewing film I only cry for one of two reasons. They are as follows:

  1. The film is excruciatingly sad and strikes a particular chord with a memory of mine.
  2. The film/design/acting/art/what-have-you is so beautiful I almost cannot stand it.

Tonight it was the latter. I remember appreciating the design, but somehow seeing it stretched out over 6 stories worth of screen and then exploring it in extremely detailed, non-hokey 3-D made for phenomenal and extremely memorable cinematography.

To be perfectly honest, I'm speechless at the moment. I can make ga-ga noises and blabber about how the thestrals were flawless and how the movie perfectly balances the overwhelming angst that made me hate the fifth book with the previous tone set by both the books and films alike. But whatever. That's for another day.

This was an experience and if you haven't seen HP in 3D and you still have the opportunity to go, you must. I wish this was a permanent installment. I hope they bring it back in marathon format after the 7th film and we can just sit and watch all of them back to back and revel in the visual fandom.

omgwow!, hp, movies
