An early farewell to TOME

After due consideration, I have decided to explain publicly why I will not participate in the TOME awards and why I will encourage others to boycott them as well.

As long as stories were rated and the info was easily accessible, I don't think that would be an issue. But what I've seen from the No Rating is that if an author chooses NOT to rate, that's allowed; or if it's posted somewhere where ratings aren't required, then that's okay too. For a lot of readers, no it's not okay and will affect readership and participation. Not that my opinion matters...

I simply suggest that as all stories posted on archives have to have some sort of rating, which can be seen once you click the link on the awards reading list, there is no need to have it recalculated to fit into a different system simply to be displayed on that reading list.

No, not every archive takes you to a summary page with a rating. Authors who post at LJ don't always link to the summary/rating or even rate. Stories of Arda you can link to the meat of the story without seeing a rating or summary. So does Faerie. That puts a lot of burden on the reader to go searching for that info. Why not just require authors to list the rating they use at the archive they post at? That might be a fair compromise?

I often forget to rate on LJ and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I feel ratings are essential.
