I had some interesting discussions about the economy as we spun off from political conversations, which I will only summarize by saying I differed greatly. Basically I agree with what the experts are saying, we need to infuse money into lending corporations and people as soon as possible in order to stop the lending market to dwindle, as that can slow and eventually halt business growth.
The problem isn't that there is going to be a recession, it's how people are behaving during it.
http://money.cnn.com/2008/01/18/news/economy/economy_poll/index.htmWe have to spend, that's the beautiful thing about the American people, their spending habits continue to stimulate growth and push the economy forward. But as people become more apprehensive, it will only hurt the economy. I don't think people understand, they need to spend, the more the better, to help push businesses through and then the lenders will receive more money they can lend out and create more growth. It's much more complicated than that, but simply as people become more afraid, their reaction will only hurt things more. We need an infusion of capital, either foreign or federal, to bring things back.
I know that things aren't good, but all I can do is look for how we can turn the tide. We'll all be hurting for a few years, still the blow can be lessened.

I really hope the Chargers can pull off the upset. I know there's a reason Billy Volek is a backup QB, but the lack of information might be crazy enough to work. Either way, don't let Belicheck know who the QB will be, let him use up more time preparing for both of them. I think that what America needs now is to see Pats fall, which just feels in stark contrast to 2002 when the Patriots were America's team. If only something could get to them, maybe the Randy Moss story...
Also I have this odd feeling that the Giants might be able to pull it off, only because they play so well on the road, and I have this sneaking suspicion that Eli has made the leap to being a great QB. Sure he's tricked us before, but he's still never performed this good.

I have to work tonight, so it'll be impossible to catch Cloverfield, but I am going to see it as soon as I can tomorrow. And I'm soooo excited. As a movie geek, there are many things that are held dear and should be experienced on a very large screen. One of those situations is big things destroying other big things. It's always exciting, but from the ground level, this could be something more emotional and thrilling than the monster genre has ever seen.
I don't expect Cloverfield to live up to that ideal. Still I just can't wait to experience it.
