One thing I have to say right away: Casanova is a TERRIBLE movie. Agonizingly painful. WHY.

The advisor is back! with possible remedies to the "Julien and I can't figure out wtf is wrong with my experiments" problem. Which is a fairly large one.

Daniele (who automatically gets cool points for greeting me with "ciao!" at the same time I said "good morning") and Brian came into the prep room today with an amazing story. So a bunch of people from the group are in France to do some experiments, including one of the Frenchmen, Jimmy. They watch the World Cup in the lab they're visiting, and today Germany played Argentina and won, much to Jimmy's -- and France's -- dismay. Jimmy gets up, starts screaming, despite attempts to calm him down. He takes a chair and throws it -- breaks it. And then he kicks the wall, making a huge hole in the wall as well as breaking his foot. Fortunately they were able to restrain him as he was about to throw the projector. Jimmy also told Daniele that he desires to make a pact with the devil and is even willing to sacrifice France just to get Germany out. Currently the director of aforementioned lab thinks Jimmy needs mental help.

See? That's World Cup fever for ya.

Amy is on the way to LA and has charged me with the task of saving Xuang (sp?) and Chuck from their overly rambunctious and drunk roommates this weekend, by taking them out to ice cream, for instance. A task I was unable to fulfill as the other remaining roommate, Julia, decided to consume the rest of the bottle of wine she was cooking with -- which was honestly no more than 2 glasses -- and was incredibly tipsy. I have since discovered Julia's type of tipsy falls into the categories of 1) rambling nonstop, 2) insisting on being taken out and about despite earlier plans made to include the poor guys, and 3) reassuring me repeatedly that she is indeed not drunk and has a high tolerance. Somewhere along the way I was coerced into coffee and creme brulee.

Mostly annoyed about 1 and 2, but about 3: doubtful about tolerance level when you're already babbling and bloodshot by glass number two.

The 'rents are coming this weekend, and I am busy trying to figure out something to do 'round here. It's kind of sad when one of the listed "tourist attractions" on the Tri-Valley Tourism webpage includes the San Ramon Senior Center or the Dublin Pool. Yeah. I think we'll check out the county fair, hike at Point Reyes, and deposit them at the wineries. There really is little better to do. The county fair sounds decent though -- Thursday's concert is Big Bad Voodoo Daddy!! :-o and Friday is Smashmouth. Whatever happened to those guys anyway?

research, friends, summer
