My taskbar has literally filled up with sites I'd like to archive, so I figured it was high time to update....
For fans of Firefly and/or Serenity:
Firefly MMORPG. It's a passable universe for an MMORPG, but it'd be better for a freelancer/privateer game along the lines of... Freelancer or Privateer. What I really want to know is, do you ever get to visit a planet with a squad of Alliance troopers, only to get attacked by
Giant Insects (TM)?
Of course, like the article said, gameplay is far more important for keeping players than just a universe. I just found the very last part of the article highly amusing:
Take my show,
Take my film,
Take me where I cannot sim
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take my MMORPG
=O)
For the older-school gamers:
Street Fighter: The Later Years, and
1 day later. Pretty durn funny, with some surprisingly subtle puns.
Gundam Pocky!. Uh, yeah. It's UC Gundam. And Pocky. Which is, in my experience, something a greater number of the fairer sex enjoy than, say, those who enjoy UC Gundam. It lacks bishounen. I do like how the figures can actually hold the Pocky, though.
If you've seen the
Gears of War trailer featuring "Mad World" (with which I wasn't familiar), here are some remixes which work surprisingly well in both appropriateness and timing:
Stayin' Alive.
Over Night (Le Chevalier d'Eon ED). Works really well at the end, which somehow feels different from the previous two.
It's amazing how well the gamers on Ars responded to the original trailer. An interesting choice on the advertisers' part.
Ars Technica Holiday Gift Guide. I mean, who seriously wouldn't want a cordless Dremel for Christmas? No, really! A lot of the things actually look pretty interesting, if a bit pricey - I'm also thinking I should look into that Electronics for Evil Geniuses title, since it might convince me to unpack ye olde soldering iron and start letting out some serious magic smoke with some tanglible results.
And some YouTube videos outside a cut:
The Rocketman at the X-Prize. I hadn't heard about this guy at all. I wonder what his insurance rates are like.
The Kinematics of Martial Arts. Not the most educational, but really impressive.
Jet Threads of the Red Sun. Apparently this happened at a Flaming Lips concert in Germany. I rather like the effect.
A link for archival purposes: The GRAPE project. I'm really surprised nobody's written a Wikipedia article about this yet. Perhaps I should do that instead of... whatever it is I do there.
And at the end, because they're too long to go anywhere else:
Some memes shamelessly ripped from
pofo. Comments in italics:
IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?
So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie
7. Skip the tracks titled in languages you don't understand. Or ones without titles - I seem to have a lot of those.
MY SOUNDTRACK:
Opening Credits: Rhythm Emotion - Two-Mix
Waking Up: Lose Yourself - Eminem
First Day At School: Obizienka Nol - TATU I left this one in, because there's nothing quite so incomprehensible as the first day of school. *Wince*
Falling In Love: Beatin' - Hitomi Takahashi Yes, "Beatin' " is spoken Engrish.
Fight Song: Suspense - Gundam SEED Orchestral OST - Toshihiko Sahashi A number of the other tracks from the SEED OST would have worked here, just not this one.
Breaking Up: Tank! - The Seatbelts It's time we blow this thing, get everybody and their stuff together....
Prom: Devil's Mask - Ninja Gaiden OC Remix - SFLaValle Uhhh....
Life's Okay: Halo Grunt Remix - Suicidal Steve See the author's name, then read the function of the track.
Mental Breakdown: Terran Theme 2 - Starcraft
Driving: Klendathu Drop - Starship Troopers OST - Basil Pouledoris How appropriate, especially after a mental breakdown.
Flashback: Cynical World - Yuki Kajiura
Getting Back Together: Tamago - Dragon Half I know what this title means, at least. No idea how it, or a hyperkinetic JPop track, relate to the subject.
Wedding: Techno Syndrome - The Immortals Sure, at a Klingon wedding. This was by far my favorite.
Birth of a Child: Something from the Emperor of the Sea OST
Final Battle: Man out of You - Mulan - Jackie Chan
Death Scene: Titicaca - Inca OST Lonely panflute. Perfect.
Funeral Song: Tema IV - Gunslinger Girl OST - Toshihiko Sahashi Shoulda been switched with the last one, since this doesn't work at all here. Tema V woulda been better.
End Credits: I got two for this one, since the first was another version of Tank!, so I chose the next one: Key of the Twilight - Yuki Kajiura
I'm still smirking over the Wedding track.
I was going to apply
a second meme from
wintercreek to this, but it would have been highly inappropriate for an upstanding citizen such as myself, given some of the track titles. So you can just imagine it for yourselves.
