Today I absolutely failed to find a job through various phone calls, but I watched some good anime and wrote more on "Glass Houses" and "None So Blind." I'm taking a little break from Cloudie's bounty of anime and X in particular--Arashi, how could you not realize that would happen to him anyway?--to check out Sarah's. Life may otherwise suck, but the rain of gifts continues!
Saiyuki Reload. The art looks like it cost about two yen, but some of the insanity is just beautiful, especially in some of the Urusai shorts.
For favorite episodes, 3, 7, and 10 win easily. I loved how only Sanzo seems to be freaked out by having a doppelganger and how the others are thrilled at the chance to watch a Sanzo get his ass kicked. Then there's 7, Sanzo vs. the kitten, with Tama/Mike/Betty/Meimei winning! I knew he'd come around. He's almost a cat himself. And those sneezes sounded like he was coughing up a hairball. For a few minutes I worried that she'd be added to his list of traumas. Then there was the spa episode, particularly the Gojyo and Hakkai water gun fight. For the shorts, the three parts of "Paper Sumo" killed me. Paper sumo Sanzo is so cute and disturbing, and now I have him as an LJ icon. *g* Other fave shorts include the true purpose of Gojyo's "antennae," why the gang wouldn't last long on a train ride to India, and "Christmas Eve" putting Sanzo in a plush reindeer costume....
Having seen through episode 12 so far, I'm liking GetBackers a lot so far, which surprised me since I tried volume 1 of the manga and found it impenetrable.
It's weird but also intriguing having all these characters running around who have strange powers and involved pasts that the show slowly unveils to us. Everybody's so blase about it too. Oh yeah, I channel electricity like an eel. ::shrug:: Sarah, I do love the dynamic between Ginji and Ban. But what is it with currently goofy characters who were rulers/murderers/gods in the past? Maybe Ginji's emperor of the den of demons past will come to better light in episodes to come, because from how he acts now it's unbelievable to me. Akabane is cool Evil with the tiniest waist I've ever seen. Then again, are you gonna say anything to him about it? I like Kazuki of the Strings a lot but can't put my finger on why. Though it took me an episode to realize that he wasn't a woman.
I'd be happier without the occasional fits of exaggerated art that break out, but for the most part I like the look of this series a lot.
