The Husky and His White Cat Shizun [Erha He Ta De Bai Mao Shizun]: vol. 3 by Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou
Some parts of this I really enjoyed, while others bored or annoyed me, making it difficult for me to rate this volume.
Finding out that Mo Ran's conviction that Chu Wanning let Shi Mei die and didn't suffer at all during that incident in the first timeline, the thing that supposedly led to Mo Ran becoming an evil emperor, slaughtering countless people, and imprisoning and sexually assaulting Chu Wanning for years, was a misunderstanding didn't give me the reaction I think the author wanted. I'm probably supposed to think this makes it more tragic; I think it makes it all more stupid. Did anyone try to educate Mo Ran's stupid ass about this over the years in the first timeline? Somebody must have at some point. Did he just not listen or understand? People were tortured and killed over this! Maybe Chu Wanning was too proud to say anything again or might have felt he deserved what he got, but what about everybody else?
Anyway, since Mo Ran now knows better and this time Chu Wanning died, he's repentant, grieving, and ready to storm the afterlife to find the parts of Chu Wanning's soul so Chu Wanning's shizun, Master Huaizui, can bring him back to life. Reading the bit where Master Huaizui is telling Chu Wanning's disciples what they must do to bring his soul back so he can come back to life, something about the way Shi Mei was acting made me think Shi Mei was going to do something to ruin it. That turned out to be wrong, but still. (I side-eye Shi Mei so hard due to the way he barely appears in this series and how he comes off when he does show up or have dialogue.)
I'm amused that Mo Ran and Chu Wanning's ghost "wedding" from volume 1 actually helped them by being somewhat binding in the afterlife. I'm extra amused that after all that trouble and Mo Ran's feeling of urgency with getting the pieces of Chu Wanning's soul and a victorious Mo Ran being all "I got it all! Let's bring him back to life right now!" that Master Huaizui then nonchalantly hits him with the reality that it's going to take five years to get Chu Wanning back among the living. What a way to end the volume. The trolling.
