Off the mother-lovin' clutch

I just realized that I haven't done a post here about my photos recently, though I've still been continuing to put things up on my Flickr. Not only have I posted Bergdorf Goodman's Feud: Capote vs. the Swans window series, but I've put up many photos taken recently and some a few years ago for Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, and Kleinfeld Bridal.

I borrowed three "Weird Al" Yankovic albums on CD from the Queens library system recently: Mandatory Fun, Off the Deep End, and Running with Scissors. I had Off the Deep End on cassette but only heard a few singles off Mandatory Fun and Running with Scissors before this. By coincidence, both Off the Deep End and Running With Scissors are from the 1990s and really brought home to me that "Weird Al" albums are time capsules in addition to silly fun: even aside from the specific song parodies, they give you an idea of the pop culture and TV of the time periods, with "I Can't Watch This" even reproducing some TV commercials. Running with Scissors' "Grapefruit Diet" was one song that got a particularly surprised laugh out of me for reminding me of that time in the '90s when there was an inexplicable swing revival. I haven't thought about the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies in years.

Another surprise was "Truck Drivin' Song," which doesn't parody a specific song but is more of a pastiche. When it starts, you might think you have some idea of where it's going. You do not. (NSFW. Really. You'll see.)

Physical therapy has been... interesting. Not only has the therapist decided that my entire legs need strength training to better protect my ankles, but that my sense of balance is too sight-related and I need to learn to balance better with my eyes closed and my body and joints "feeling" things out to balance. My initial reaction was "Isn't it common for people's sense of balance to rely on sight?" (My vestibular rehab exercises after my brain surgery involved a lot of training my eyes.) I've definitely improved on doing it with my eyes closed, since the first time I had to do it, I was so wobbly, lost, and very scared because I felt like I was going to fall and get myself killed, but I'm a lot better several appointments later.
