Strayed

The Stray video game, in which you play as a cat in a mysterious city of machine people, has been released, and I enjoyed watching some YouTubers do playthroughs of it, all of Jacksepticeye's three videos and the first of Ellen's, which she'd aptly titled "Grown Woman Cries at Video Game Cat" because she often gets amusingly overwhelmed with "Kitty! Cute kitty doing cute kitty things!" moments.

Although the main news about it has been "you play as a cat, with a cat POV," the art design and worldbuilding are huge draws for this exploration and puzzle solving game (with some moments of peril). Based a bit on Kowloon Walled City, the environment of this post-apocalyptic cyberpunkish version peopled by charming robots is very detailed. The creators and designers gave the cat protagonist a lot of accurate cat mannerisms and movements; the crew of actual cats used as models and inspirations get a listing in the credits, with two of them being named Riggs and Murtaugh.

(Sometimes I imagine Schuldig picking up some extra cash doing Twitch stream playthroughs and now him naming the cats for Weiß, with the main, ginger catagonist being called Aya. "This isn't the first time I've puppeteered Aya's actions.")

We say representation matters in media and here's more proof: there are reports of a lot of people's cats watching Stray in progress in fascination and sometimes trying to interact with the cat protagonist.
