"Why 'greening' cities can make gentrification worse - and often doesn’t help the environment either"

Many New Yorkers have known this for some time. It's the reason why some poorer communities protest new developments, amenities, businesses, and green spaces, because we know those things will only be enjoyed by the people who now live in our homes after rising prices force us out, or who bought our homes as investments. Which means you have to protect living in some degree of squalor sometimes just to retain your home. There has to be a way to make real improvements for people currently living in the area without opportunistic developers and other vultures using them to pad their pockets.

I'm really sad by what the High Line turned that area of Manhattan into, the many residents kicked out and businesses destroyed.
