Neglected

Years ago, I was saying that my old favorite Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery was looking barely tended and its roads were crumbling, so badly that visiting it made me too sad. Well, in 2019, this information came out: "Board Members of Non-Profit Cemetery Embezzled Thousands of Dollars." Thousands? Hundreds of thousands.

I thought that new management over the next years would surely have improved things, but my recent visit said otherwise. Some areas look good and groomed, mostly the ones closest to the entrances or near the more important roads, but others are a neglected mess, and unfortunately some of the ignored areas are my favorite places, with some so overgrown I can't even get into them to take intelligible photos. The roads that were disintegrating are still disintegrating.

This female statue is currently partially inside a bush. Prospect Hill is completely overgrown, with some untamed stuff taller than I am.

Here, the tree currently growing behind the gravestone has knocked down and destroyed the statue that once topped it. (It's the whiter thing visible in front of and to the right of the large monument in this photo.) Look at how big this tree is! This is years of neglect.

I fear that Irving may be destroyed next and wish I could go in with a saw or something. This is the closest the length of the branches let me get to him, and some of them are resting on him.

By weird contrast, this tree I liked on Union Hill was removed.

This visit left me feeling sad and somewhat disturbed. You can comment here or at the Dreamwidth crosspost.
