Subtle

Some flowers are starting to show up, but for the most part it still feels like winter here.

Today I had a doctor's appointment in Manhattan, and afterward this guy on the street comes up to me and asks me, "If you could have dinner with any woman living or dead, who would it be?", to which I shook my head, said "Oh no," and walked on because I know how this works. Last time a woman I didn't know came up to me in a subway station asking if I knew which US state didn't have a particular letter in its name, which segued into a pitch about donating to a charity, taking advantage of my, and many people's, politeness by sticking us in a conversation we feel like we can't just leave. But when she asked me how much I spend on lunch and a (Starbucks) coffee a day to prime me for the talk about making a donation and I answered, "Not much: I'm a disabled person on Social Security and food stamps," the look on her face of "OMG, this conversation isn't going the way I expected" was a small revenge. Yeah, lady, my life isn't going the way I expected. She let me go after that.

I was in a lot of pain and felt exhausted today, but somehow I managed to do the commute to and from Manhattan and walked 3.3 miles today. On the train ride in, I wasn't sure I could manage it. I don't know if this is my chronic thing or the unhappy return of my spring thing fatigue.

A week ago while I was at Flushing Meadows Corona Park on a blustery day, I saw a large circle of people filming something in the center on their phones. From the music and people headbobbing, I think it was a freestyle rap battle. I couldn't hear any of the words though.

Joining
letsgetshitdone for March has been working well for me, since it's gotten me writing again. Amongst all the pain and troubles of February, I didn't write anything that month.
