I saw Warm Bodies on cable again today, and it saddens me that I can't recommend it to my roommate because it has some gross moments and she's sensitive to that. It's funny and often sweet, and I think it would be right up her alley if not for the horror elements. It is a movie about a zombie who falls in love with a living woman and takes her home, post-apocalypse, and the far-reaching consequences that ensue. (Someone in the DVD's extras referred to it as a "zom rom com.")
Some of the parts I enjoyed the most I can't tell you about from how they were unexpected and the unexpectedness added to my enjoyment. Some parts didn't go over so well with me, but I adjusted my outlook a bit after I heard it referred to as a zombie fairytale in the extras.
It doesn't hurt that the movie uses John Waite's "Missing You." *g*
It's also a shame that genre movies don't get much respect because Nicholas Hoult is excellent as the zombie. He plays the character evolving over the course of the movie very well, and when his character is at his most helplessly inarticulate you can still see him thinking. He also does a lot with the zombie's body language--the way he stands, walks, and runs--shoulders slumped and head thrust forward, limbs mostly stiff but flexible in sometimes odd ways at the joints, and never standing up straight. I found his shambling run especially interesting, in that he still does all of the above, with his legs beneath the knees moving at sometimes unexpected angles. I appreciate this stuff.
