Retro Fashion

As often happens, Fashion Week has led to more interesting window displays at my local stops. I took these about a week to two weeks ago but didn't get around to curating 'em until now.

Hey, indelicateink, the 1980s are back in Bergdorf Goodman's Fifth Avenue windows! This display series is celebrating the publication of Bold, Beautiful and Damned: The World of 1980s Fashion Illustrator Tony Viramontes by Dean Rhys Morgan and features a lot of his illustrations as decorative elements throughout. The white skin, intense colors, and high stylization of the face makeup on the mannequins make me think of Nagel as well as, apparently, Viramontes.

I'm nostalgic! Modern makeup trends are so dull.

Though some of the colors of things looked much more intense and occasionally even a bit clownish in my daytime shots of the windows. But, Fashion!

Some of Viramontes' art tools were in one window:

Back in the age of the dinosaurs, the fashion industry loved Polaroid cameras for the ability to take a shot and immediately have the photo and know what it looks like. What does this model look like today and can I have something of her to keep for reference? *Click!*

I don't think I could carry that purse and still feel like a grown-up (or expect to be taken seriously). I included part of the outfit on the right because I think the details are cool. You can see somewhat more of that outfit here.

The same pair of shoes by day and by night:

But at Desigual, it's the 1960s. My mom had a longer version of this cut.

You can see shots from Bergdorf Goodman, Desigual, Dior, and Louis Vuitton up at my Flickr account and my deviantArt.
