Little Local Moments

I was in Queens' Flushing Meadows Corona Park for about 15 minutes today but was asked for directions by two people. The Queens Museum of Art was easy since it was so close, but I'll never know if those two women in the SUV ever found the Queens Zoo. It didn't help that one of them started the conversation by asking me for directions to the Bronx Zoo, with her companion immediately correcting her because the look on my face must have been amazing. When I brought one of my maps over, the Bronx Zoo woman had a "wtf is this?" look on her face. Lady, it wasn't that long ago that people knew how to read these. Also, it's like Google Maps, just on paper.

A local diner had a surprising sign on the inside of its ladies room door: "DON'T PANIC. Lights are motion activated." Which means that at least one person was on the toilet a long time without moving much and was suddenly plunged into total blackness inside a tiny, unfamiliar, windowless room. (No stalls since it was a mini room with one toilet, a sink, a trash can, and a wall hand dryer.)
