When I saw Bergdorf Goodman's designers putting the panels up last Wednesday afternoon and the forced perspective involved, I was hoping for something really cool, and I'm not disappointed. I'm really impressed by this series. It obviously takes cues from Dior's current window displays but adds its own Bergdorf wow factor.
I also, by accident, ended up trying a way through the Grand Central Viaduct I don't usually take, northbound, going through the
Park Avenue Tunnel starting at 33rd Street and taking me up and Grand Central Terminal's exterior. It's not well cared for but it's very cool and gives a great view at the end. Thus, in August, during a Summer Streets Saturday, I'm going to see if I can walk through that tunnel to appreciate it better, something that's hard to do while driving through at 35 mph at night.
I have new Bergdorf Goodman, Dior, Coach, and Saks Fifth Avenue photos up on
my Flickr account and
my deviantArt. This time I have quite a few photos that will only show up here.
I don't even know what's going on with this ensemble. Who would dress like this if not paid to? It's Burberry.
Peacock feathers on the surface of a Burberry dress. Sadly, the dress is the most boring sheath dress possible.
Now we know what Schuldig might wear on an island vacation... aside from a skimpy Speedo of course.
It's spring, and designers want us to wear really vivid colors in sometimes unusual pairings on our shoes.
A map mentioning long-gone places like the Hippodrome, Sherry's Restaurant, Rennaissance Hotel, and Fleischman Baths on a plate seen at Bergdorf Goodman, 3/10/13. As so often happens with me, I became semi-obsessed with figuring out the year of this map, which the photo and the handwriting made difficult. Here's what I figured out from Googling the names I managed.
Hippodrome: 1905-1939
Sherry's Restaurant: 1890s-1919
Fleischman Baths: 1908-?
Bristol Building 1903-?
Aeolian Building -?
Shaw Building -?
Central Building ?
Century Arts Club: still exists!
Royalton Hotel: still exists!
Ironically, the "building under construction" grid piece along 42nd Street was actually the one that helped the most! It's about where the Grace Building is today, but construction on the Grace was started in 1971. But! "
The Grace Building is located on the former site of Stern's department stores' flagship location and headquarters" and "
In 1913 Stern Brothers moved farther uptown and built a new flagship store near Fifth Avenue and West 42nd Street across from Bryant Park," which narrows this map down to around 1913.

In other news, the MRI of my left shoulder and upper arm showed "supraspinatus tendinosis without tear" and "subdeltoid bursitis." The first opening the orthopedic doctor had was Tuesday, so that's my appointment. More waiting.
My doctor asked what I did to myself to get that kind of damage. I did nothing. I'm scared that this is what I have to look forward to: more pain from more places as my body breaks down and ages faster than it should.
