"I'm swimming in the smoke / Of bridges I have burned..."

I was given one CD this Christmas--Linkin Park's newest album, A Thousand Suns--and really like it. But almost as much amusement comes from reading the reviews for it on amazon.com because there are a lot of betrayed nu metalheads whining like babies. I'm picturing guys in their 20s and late teens sobbing over this Awful Betrayal. One guy said ( Read more... )

Reminds me of the comments on My Chem's latest. Makes you wonder if have any of these people ever listened to a band long term? Sounds change and grow as the artists do, The Beatles original stuff is nowhere the same as the last albums they did.

I guess not. You'd think it would be impossible to avoid.

~One guy said that when a band changes its sound it should change its band name so its fans won't be tricked into buying crap music.~

If the same is true for individual performers...Bowie's screwed.

~I'm picturing guys in their 20s and late teens sobbing over this Awful Betrayal.~

You've probably hit the nail on the head.

Bowie should be on his 12th name or more by now and because to his total obscurity due to that would probably have only one listener.

Fanboys, this too will pass!

i must say that while i haven't turned it off, this isn't ANYTHING like what i'd expect when i think 'linkin park'.

that isn't necessarily bad. while i really enjoyed meteora and parts of hybrid theory and minutes to midnight, this is a bit new. if i was a big LP fan and wanting more of that, i'd be disappointed. instead i'm listening to it with those put aside.

unfortunately i did read the explanation of their creative process before i read your warning. but it was your rec that got me to give it a shot anyway. so far i'm not sorry. (again. if i was? i'd have turned it off by now.)

still wishing you and yours the best...

The funny thing to me is that these self-avowed big, devoted fans of Linkin Park's earlier work should have, in retrospect, seen the seeds there. Somebody who has listened just to what played on the radio or just some of the albums have more justification. Of course, if a person doesn't like anything they're

It helps that I like the musical direction they're going in. If I were someone who hated the new direction it wouldn't matter whether I had some advance warning or not. *g*

I myself can get a bit whiny about Jon Crosby's (VAST's) decision to continue in a stripped down, acoustic direction, but a large part of that is me not thinking his voice is good and/or distinctive enough to make up for all the missing instruments and layers of sound. I just don't go to review sites and bawl about it. *g*

Thanks!

Minutes to Midnight had some great songs but I can't listen to the whole album in one setting because it makes me so depressed. *g*

The melody sung in parts of the stanzas of "Waiting for the End" hits me so hard as belonging to an old song but for the like of me I can't figure out which one.
