On the Walk

I took a walk through St. John's Cemetery today, entering to an insane chorus of raucous birdsong. I saw a mass of birds, mostly sparrows and robins, although I followed a blue jay for a while and tried to get a photo of it but failed since it quickly flew from perch to perch before hiding in a tree canopy. I also saw a black squirrel for the first time since I moved back to New York from northeast Pennsylvania, where they were plentiful. Sometimes I would be walking down a row and seeing birds flying and squirrels scampering in front of and to the sides of me, like in a graveyard Disney movie.

I discovered something I hadn't expected. See here. I would have thought the statue under a stone canopy would be more protected, but instead the ones I saw were missing limbs and badly stained. One much larger one had a statue of I think Jesus and a man where the hands had come off, the faces and chins had worn away, and the black stained parts of the faces. It was shudder-worthy, and I didn't take a photo.
