[ Showcase #2 - July Flame - Backdated to the 4th - 75% Droned]

[ A; Action | Morning ]

[Hal's luck has run out. Escaping with a partial droning, he nevertheless doesn't notice anything is amiss until he's breakfasted and on his way out the door to work. Strewn across the work bench in the garage are quite a number of Silver Age Green Lantern comic books - no doubt his son's work, the little scamp. It's strange though...he tucks his uniform cap beneath his arm, apprehension settling into his belly as he pulls the topmost one closer, staring at the cover.

Something's not quite right. A memory rises to the surface, unbidden, of things he swears came right out of the latest Hollywood science fiction picture. But it felt so real, so vivid, so colorful...

Letting them alone, he looks warily around himself, as if seeing his surroundings for the first time.]

I think I'll walk.

[Proceeding down the driveway, slipping his hat on and looking very smart and wonderfully 50's-overdressed for a fireman, he waves to his neighbors. He has the time to stop on the way in to work, sure to miss any festivities that evening since he'll be busy putting out any holiday-related fires. Gosh, he can't be too miffed, he loves being a hero!]

[ B; Phone ]

[Calling from the station house, there's a bit of glassy-eyed PSA narrator to his voice, although it sounds as though his heart isn't quite in it. It's the same message he's taken upon himself to notify the town with every year, surely.]

Good afternoon, this is Capta-er, Lieutenant Hal Jordan of the Mayfield Fire Department, calling with a reminder to play it safe with your barbecues and fireworks this beautiful day. Fire prevention and safety begins with you. Have a happy and safe July Fourth!

[Safety message aside, should anyone have need of the FD's services, help is only an operator's switch away. Which is...strange. Whatever happened to 911?]

fourth wall fodder extraordinaire, ic, phone, smokey the bear's my homeboy, droned, 1491 kramden road, this does not bode well, event! 4th of july
