REPORTBACK (SUNDAY, JULY 10, 2022): Okay, Stavanger. Charming college town where I got lost more Often than Not, but found my way, eventually, to the Archaeology Museum with its runestone collection; and the waterfront fish market with its warm fish cakes. Also, the stay in Stavanger included my Favorite hotel,
Ydalir, named for the Fabled home of Ullr, the Norse god of archery (which explains the YD logo, Fashioned into a sort of bow and arrow motif). That room, at least, had a nice-sized desk where I could work on shifting photos from phone to hard drive, and start off writing these reportbacks. No swimming, as it was a bit Chilly and Rainy for that; but plenty of cafes to hang out in. Also, I met a fellow teeshirt designer, and bought a teeshirt of his with an illustration of a rare and Endangered bird, the Vipe or Lapwing.

Folks, I've heard of
Stavanger (6/25-6/27); but I don't know Much about it. However,
getting there from Arendal by bus apparently takes us through Kristiansand, my paternal grandmother's birthplace (though she mostly grew up on a farm in Sogne). Stavanger is said to be a region of quite diverse terrain--everything from alps to beaches, and more Besides. So, what can we do There in summer?
Stavanger is not just one sprawling city; it includes
a bunch of islands, accessible by car, bike, and boat. I'm still looking up where the public beaches might be. Well--here's
some of them...
I hear that
fjord cruises in and around the Stavanger region are quite Popular. They might also yield loads of great photos, if your lighting is Right.
Here's a
Top 9 List of activities in Stavanger, including cruise tours, a Viking cultural museum, and loads of street art.
Anyway, we'll find things to do. We'll spend one day in the town itself, at least, getting to know the place...
