I'm glad that I decided to talk to Douglas Coupland yesterday at his reading instead of just leaving like the other times. He was very nice and didn't disappoint my fan-girlish notions of him from grade 9. And I behaved like a human being and not a fan girl which was a bonus. He thought he had recognized me from other readings which I suppose could be true, but I think not. Maybe it was my smile. Apparently I have a memorable smile. Oh Mark Crimmins, let's marry.

Douglas Coupland and I spoke of my useless university degree being my fallback for a singing career and our American Idol choices. He said I was a lucky shit because I could sing and asked me what my karaoke song of choice is. It's Laid by James for a very strategic reason, this being that when people know I sing classical music they expect that I can sing karaoke well. This is not the case. I sing karaoke like most sing karaoke - mildly annoyingly. So I sing Laid because I can hit the high notes which impresses people anyway and then they can forget how much I suck at Rock/pop but claim to sing Opera.

Anyway, Douglas Coupland didn't make me hate him and I didn't blubber while talking to him and I consider that a successful meeting. And his handshake is firm, which is important because I judge people by their handshakes.
