With the shower running, I lay at the bottom of my bathtub for an hour today. I breathed through gaps in the water that flowed across my face; my body, which was curled into a tight ball, was completely encompassed by the steady blast of warm-but-not-quite-hot water that was wonderful in its steadiness, continuity. I thought about what a comforting blanket this was, and I couldn't bare to move.
As I drifted off to sleep, it occurred to me that the water that had puddled in the crook of my right arm would be enough to drown me, and I wondered if when my roommate came home and found me, and paramedics had arrived to take my body away, whether or not they would say I looked happy. I was, though.
