Right. So, why is it that the year I go abroad, the most epic amounts of snow ever blanket Washington, DC, Georgetown calls not one or two but four consecutive snow days, and I am stuck in gloomy Britannia jealously eyeing the Facebook statuses of my friends back on the East Coast? The Federal government has been shut down since early afternoon on Friday. We're rooting for them to just give up the week altogether, which will amount to a full TEN days of holiday, including President's Day. ;) Needless to say, there are tons of happy Federal employees!

Well, then, I'll have to keep my fingers crossed and hope that Uncle Sam makes the right decision!

Meanwhile, the Georgetown provost sent out an e-mail last night saying that the university is no longer getting President's Day off and that he's looking into adding another week to the spring semester. Nothing in this world comes for free, I guess!

Aww, that is sad! I heard the same about my cousins in school in Maryland. I don't know what they're doing with the government yet...

If it wasn't official before, it is now: the East Coast south of New York City is hopeless in the face of winter weather.

*offers cookies* You know how we feel in Chi-town--snow days are a strange phenomenon that happen to other people.

(This is also the second time in my entire life that I can recall there being a public school snow day in NYC--the first was in 1996. Good times.)
