The headlining match of today's Wimbledon men's semifinals features the two Andys -- personally, I will be pulling for the American one, though, if forced to make a prediction, I would give it to the Scot in four sets -- but I was rather more keen on catching the Federer-Haas match. Indeed, the prospect of watching the Swiss Maestro play is one of the few reasons I will bother to wake up at 7am on a federal holiday.
Federer won in straight sets, as predicted, but, throughout the match, I was impressed by the level of play from both players. Tommy Haas did not, by any stretch of the imagination, play a poor match of tennis: his serve proved to be very reliable, and his groundstrokes were both powerful and well placed. Simply showing up with an arsenal of shots and executing them just isn't enough, though, when Federer is at the top of his game. At that point, the man is nigh untouchable, as he proved today. It's practically unbelievable, really, what he can go with a tennis racket.
