christmas 2007 wishlist

Dec 03, 2007 14:02

I normally make this largely pointless post a lot earlier, but university things have a funny way of distracting from the normal ebb and flow of life. This includes holidays. God, speaking of which, I really need to get my Christmas shopping budget and gift ideas list drawn up.

Rules

Make a post (public, friends locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Now surf around your friends list (or friends friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part: If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call. There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1. Any Orhan Pamuk novel except My Name Is Red, Other Colors, and Snow.

2. Imperial Hubris: Why the West Is Losing the War on Terror, Michael Scheuer.

3. Citizens: A Chronicle of the French Revolution, Simon Schama.

4. Rome (HBO) Seasons 1 and/or 2 DVDs.

5. Any volume of poetry.

6. Black Moleskine ruled journal, 5x8 (my current one is getting full).

7. Scarves! For the cold weather we D.C. residents experience! I'm not too picky, just nothing too loud.

8. These shoes, in red, black, or blue (size 6).

9. H&M, Gap, and/or Anthropologie giftcards (self is an unemployed student with a penchant for wistfully staring at the many shops here at Georgetown).

10. A letter/card would be really lovely too. :)

Right, so if anyone actually plans on sending something along, the address is here. Post is filtered -- if you can't access it, just comment to this entry.

ETA: Thanks to aswanargent for reminding me -- I am leaving Georgetown for the Christmas holiday on December 17. If you are sending a package, it must arrive before December 14 or after January 10; otherwise, the residence hall offices (where packages are picked up) will be closed and the package will be returned to the sender. And that would just be a pain.

Signing off, V.M. Bell
