Today, the President of the Dominican Republic, His Excellency Leonel Fernández, came to Georgetown to speak. Although Latin American affairs are not the focus of my intellectual and academic inquiries, why on earth would I ever pass this opportunity up? :)
What he had to say about the future direction of democracy in Latin American countries was very fine and interesting; I was most impressed by the fact that, yes, Virginia, intelligent and coherent elected officials do exist outside the White House. Ahem.
