Am still rather heartbroken overn the hamster's death and cried my fair bit last night, so photo tribute of cuteness coming later. But, for now, there is politics to be discussed.
Recently, I've found myself less and less interested in American politics. This coming from the girl who still has a Kerry-Edwards bumper sticker on her binder, yes, but the more I think about it, the less I care. The very mention of my darling senator Rick Santorum, for instance, still makes me violently issue every profane word known to man, yet I'm hardly inspired into having leftist convulsions of glee at the idea of kicking him out of the Senate.
I'm just very fed up with The System. Republicans are stupid because, well, they're bullheaded in the wrong direction. They got us into Iraq, which has screwed up the Middle East even more, not to mention the country itself. Now North Korea has motherfucking nukes after Bush decided to not negotiate when disarmament was still possible. Republicans and I, on the whole, do not get along. It also seems that Americans and Republicans might be ending their affair. The 2006 election is the Republicans' to lose. Their poll numbers are lower than my self-esteem re this fucking Stanford essay. They might as well concede defeat now.
But I totally wouldn't be surprised if the Democrats managed to blow it - again. Because the only reason I'd cast a vote for the Democrats is because they're not Republicans and their leader is not George Bush. I keep on thinking of 1994 when Newt Gingrich presented his Contract with America on the steps of Capitol Hill, forcefully outlining the Republicans' legislative ideas on issues from tax cuts to welfare reform. This is the perfect time for the Democrats to nationally come out with a similar manifesto: hey, voters, this is what's wrong with the country and this is how we're going to fix it.
Naturally, there has been nothing of the sort. It was most indicative that when Nancy Pelosi earlier attempted to sketch the Democratic platform, she said absolutely nothing about Iraq.
I can't stand them both, seriously. And I'm going back to missing my hamster now.
Signing off, V.M. Bell
getting my political on,
