2007.
A year of ups and downs, as usual. More downs than ups for the world but I guess it's something we have to be accustomed to, living in a post 911 era.
The year seems to have slipped by quickly and so many things seem to remain unchanged. The world is still fighting against each other (
Benazir Bhutto assassinated) - then again, it's been happening since forever. We're grappling with the harsh reality that we're dying as
our climates start changing. Battles, fought so long, seem to have been won but it remains to be seen if the changes will last, if our existence and those of other creatures will be able to last for a couple more centuries (
Bali climate talks). Discoveries, whether medical (
stem cells from cheek cells) to the zoological world (
new mammal found in Papua New Guinea), continue to emerge - a reminder that there's still a lot we don't necessarily know.
The entertainment world continues to be rocked by scandals (
Ivy two times Wheesung) and delicious gossips (
Henry the 14th member of Super Junior?). Talk of plagiarism continue to be rife (
Big Bang GD's Lie plagiarizes FreeTEMPO's Sky High?). The entertainment world continues to astound and amaze us, an escape from the harsh reality we live in. Even then, reality seeps in - you're still human in the end. (TOP, GD in hospital due to fatigue: Just in...no links yet. But seriously, all ye stars out there. Please don't exert yourself. No one needs to see anyone die on stage due to exhaustion. *touch wood*).
It remains to be seen if 2008 will be a good year for some fans with plenty of faces heading into army. (
Where do I begin?!)
Personally, 2007 wasn't all that awesome. Sure, I've made plenty of new friends *waves*, relinquished ties with some and re-enforced others. It still seems surreal that come next year, I'll be headed towards my Final Year and then...who knows? 2007 certainly humbled me and made me more aware of the world around me. 2007 wasn't a good year for the family and it seems the troubles and chaos will be brought into the new year.
Perhaps, 2008 will be different.
Here's to wishing everyone a happy 2008 and hopefully, it'll be a better year ahead for everyone.
