“Why can’t I ever fucking sleep.”

Key spoke aloud to no one in particular as he leaned on the railing of the balcony of their dorm, elbows resting on the cold metal as the warm summer air flitted over his skin, slightly muggy despite the fact it was three in the morning. The wind ruffled his hair and it was just two weeks before their comeback; he really should be sleeping, he needed energy to record their album and film their video and learn the choreography but he just couldn’t sleep.

Even as he would lie down for bed, eyes heavy and limbs weighed down from exhaustion, sleep would elude him.

Still.

It had been way too long since the ice cream, since the cereal, since the cake and the sewing machine.

He had been up for two hours and Minho still hadn’t come out to drag him back to bed.

Was this finally the night that went undisturbed?

Key’s heart ached.

It ached and it burned and it yearned and he knew that there was something… more, something that he just could barely reach out and touch with his fingers. But God he wanted to grip onto that something, he wanted to clutch onto it for dear life and let it anchor him because he felt like he was floating away, like his feet couldn’t stay on the ground no matter how many times he stapled himself down.

He felt like there was something more that he needed to be doing. In retrospect that’s ridiculous; he’s an idol, he’s on top of the world, he’s making a difference in people’s lives but as he stares out at the city of Seoul, those lights and the blur of taxis on the streets below, the tall buildings and the smoggy air…

He knew there was something more for him to be doing.

Just… something more.

Something that he couldn’t grab onto and put under a microscope and examine and truly figure out.

“We should run away.”

That was the first time Key had been startled by Minho’s voice, as he turned around and saw the other rapper leaning in the frame of the sliding door. Key tilted his head and frowned, registering the slightly younger boy’s words.

“Run away?”

“Get out of here,” Minho gestured towards the polluted city that Key had been staring at all night. “Make something of ourselves.”

Anyone in their right mind would tell both of them that they had made something of themselves; they were famous, they were heart throbs, they had people that would kill to be in their shoes or have a sliver of their fame.

Key would gladly tell people to shove it.

“Do you think we could?” Key asked, turning around and resting his chin in his hand, looking out at the cityscape once again. “Even so… if we could, would we?”

“I would,” Minho said almost right away, moving to stand next to Key as he, too, surveyed the city. “You would.” His words drifted a bit in Key’s head, sounding distant and far off before they rang clear as a bell. “We all would.”

“I want to be part of a world where we’re just normal kids,” Key said, glancing over to Minho, taking in his beautiful profile - the sharp nose, the thick lips, the protruding adam’s apple. Minho turned and smiled at him, a soft, kind smile, the one he reserved for Key when Key really needed to be reminded that he had so much going for him right now, with the life that he already had. “I just want to be in a world where I’m not famous, where I’m just a regular teenager.”

“In my world,” Minho started slowly, his eyes drifting back towards the lights that were starting to blur together in Key’s vision. “In my world, you’re normal, Kibum ah.”

Key arched a brow.

“In our world…” Minho turned and wrapped his arms around Key’s shoulders, pulling the shorter boy into his chest. “… we’re not famous, we’re not idols, we’re not heart throbs. We’re just two fools in love.”

Key smiled and wrapped his arms around Minho’s torso, resting his cheek against the strong chest and letting his eyes hood slightly as he looked at the tall buildings that were stabbing into the night sky.

“That’s the kind of world I want to be in, forever.” Key said, the weight of his words monumental, floating off of his chest and making him feel like maybe he had figured out that something more. For now, at least.

“Our world will be forever,” Minho said, kissing Key’s forehead.

“As long as we’re two fools in love,” Key finished, leaning up on his tip toes to press a kiss to Minho’s lips.

Perhaps that ‘something more’ was here with Minho, in this world that they could wrap themselves up in, forget about the goings-on around them and immerse their minds in each other.

Perhaps that ‘something more’ was nothing at all.

As Minho picked Key up bridal style, making the diva laugh and wrap his arms around the other’s neck, one thing was definitely clear.

Their world always had room for something more.
