BOO!
Tonight was a scary one as we rehearsed Notturno by Don Martino. Actually, it was a lot less frightening than it usually is. Yes, our ffff are BIGGER and more FEROCIOUS than ever but the crazy notes are all starting to fall into place. Easily the hardest piece I've ever played, I get this unusual high from it. As I drive to campus a nervous excited anticipation washes over me. I love chamber music and this particular piece kicks ass. Take a listen online if you will and then imagine it ballooning into something even more amazing than what first meets your ear. I'm finding this Pulitzer Prize winning 20th century masterwork to be unbelievably expressive. It is expressive in that I can say so much with it, not a romantic Brahms expressive. The sometimes agitated, sometimes sweeping, sometimes 12 tone, sometimes pointillistic, sometimes hush beauty overwhelms me.
I can't wait until our next rehearsal and especially the performance! A lot of work WILL be going on before then.
So worth it. :D :D
Got music? Mwah ha ha.
