Welp, after years and years, I finally put my nose to the grindstone and finished Megaman 6 in one sitting, using an emulator but eschewing save states. It wasn't the scary thing I'd built it up to be in my head, thankfully. I still died a lot since it was new to me, but I felt weirdly overpowered in it by the end, even for a Megaman game, and that was kinda fun.
That being said, I probably will start using save states again soon just so I can finish more old games while not having to worry about IRL schedule concerns. I used to have an issue where I'd savescum so much that I wasn't really gaining any skill, but I'm a bit wiser now that I've beaten more old games in one go, so I feel like I can strike a balance between saving and committing enemy/trap patterns to memory.
Kinda of thinking about emulating Crash of Demonhead and Astyanax soon, as far as NEs games go.
For Switch I'm thinking of buying the arcade version of Bad Dudes and one of the Ninja Kid/Ninja Taro games when they come out tomorrow. After that, that'll probably be it for my game purchases for a while, at least until the Switch Megaman collections come out or Steam has another big sale.
I tried emulating the Bad Dudes NES game and it's a surprisingly faithful conversion, graphically. This was my first time playing any version of the game. I guess the main point of this post is that's there's a lot of famous games I've known about for years but haven't tried for myself. The most amusing part of it for me is the flaming punch. It's not technically a projectile, but any enemy standing behind the enemy you just punched dies, no matter how far away they are. It's like you hit so hard that you warp reality. The best part is that technically shuriken count as enemies, so if you punch a ninja's throwing weapon, you'll kill them too.
Because I'm weird, I thought of what a magical girl conversion of Bad Dudes might be like, and it wasn't that hard to imagine. I figure you could open with "Are you a kawaii enough imouto-chan to save the class president?" and change the flaming punch to a wand shot.
The Switch has proven to be durable and reliable for the most part. Feel kinda silly for worrying so much about rumors from last year that it would break, especially the whole thing about it potentially exploding and burning down your house.
That's all for now. :3
