So I am a sap for most everything English, as was my Dad. So as I was watching the Jubilee events, particularly the RAF fly-over today, I thought how those airplanes flying over would have very different memories for the Queen and a few others than they would for most of the crowd. I am an aberration (for so many reasons, LOL) but in this case because my parents were so old when I was born. The stories I grew up with were from the Great Depression and WWII. I feel so lucky that I in a sense got to "live" a history most people my age only read about or are much more removed from.
Some of my Dad's favorite WWII stories were of the times he spent in London--and he was there a lot. So when I was watching today, my thoughts went back to the stories I heard about London during WWII and his great admiration for the British people. Those planes meant so much back then, and while I loved the red, white and blue vapor trails, I would guess the Queen loved them for much more than that lovely decoration, as my Dad would have.
And that all reminded me how thankful I am that I got to visit London with my Dad. He so loved the town and the people and getting to see it through his eyes and memories was a true gift. It is why no matter how awfully crowded London is, I will always love visiting there.
The history there isn't too shabby either ;-)
