Woman's Bones Stolen From Crypt
Police Looking For Mausoleum Robbers
POSTED: 4:00 p.m. MST November 13, 2003
Police are looking for the bones of a woman who died in 1907 and has no apparent family.
Officials of the Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colo., found a private mausoleum broken in to Thursday morning, and notified police.
Entry to the mausoleum was gained sometime between Monday evening and Thursday morning.
According to police, someone used a sledgehammer to gain entry into the mausoleum. Once inside, police said a tin crypt that sealed the woman's casket was cut open.
The remains of Mary A. Bacon were taken in the break-in. Police said they didn't know how old she was when she died and that they don't know if there are any local relatives.
Police asked for help from the public in solving the break-in. Anyone with information was asked to call the police department at (719) 444-7580. Tipsters calling Crime Stoppers at (719) 634-7867 can remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward, if an arrest is made in the case.
