So, I'm watching the Sox game, and in honor of Memorial Day, both teams have special hats with the logos in star-spangled red, white, and blue. Often on holidays, our catcher Varitek wears special gear that gets auctioned for charity, notably the pink Mothers Day breast-cancer-awareness chest guard. Last year on I think the Fourth of July, he looked like Captain Frickin' America. But this season Varitek is only backup, and our new catcher, Saltalamacchia (a name so long it has to arc to make a semicircle on the back of his uniform), doesn't seem to go for the special gear. I'm not sure how my brain got from there to thinking, you know, if you mix red, white, and blue, you get lavender. I had no idea until tonight that I had such a patriotic wardrobe. But now I want to see Varitek wear a lavender chest guard on Independence Day.
