At first I thought that this post was one of your own experiences, and I was incredibly impressed. Then I found that it was another’s experience, but you felt strongly enough to make a point out of it and posted it. I envy you for this. I can see no better proof that a person can stand up for themselves and their beliefs without condemning others. Even if this didn’t happen to you, I’m positive you would react in a similar way. Through my observations of you, I have come to the conclusion that you have the compassion, integrity (and other relating words) that could match even Gandhi. Even when you saw a racial bias in me, you told me how you felt and your solution to the problem sternly but without even the slight bit of condemnation. Instead of making an excuse, I will give you an explanation. I was raised in South Africa and I had a lot of trouble in my life with black people. I can’t even think of what to call their race. That in itself sounds derogatory. I can’t call them African Americans because I am legally an African American and I’m pale as a sheet. Saying black sounds derogatory (to me at least) and now “negro” is also considered offensive. I was robbed 3 times in South Africa and all times it was a black person and my uncle was killed by a black person. My uncle was a car sales man and when he took the black customer for a test drive, he was killed and dumped on the side of the street so the car could be taken. When you turn on the news you see that most of the people committing violent crimes are black. There is a stereotype that black people are criminals. How is this assumption made? Well, there are so many big “Rap Stars” who are constantly supporting their own label. They rap about robbing a store, drinking, killing people for their watches, and more commonly bitches, hoes and drugs. Other than a few black people such as Bill Cosby and Colin Powel, the black people on T.V. and in the media are admitting to and even promoting their crimes. That was also a general statement, and I know there are black people who rap, and get on MTV who are good people, but they are greatly outnumbered. I even have black friends. I wasn’t raised as a racist, but certain instances have had an impact on my beliefs, and I know that they are wrong, but at times I don’t think before I type. I have A.D.D., so sometimes I talk, then expand on an idea so much that it needs its own explanations, and the end result is what sounds like pointless babbling. If what I have said made no sense at all, then I’ll give you the very brief explanation. I envy you greatly, I have made mistakes in judging people for their race, and I would also like to apologize for my behavior. I have to go now, and I haven’t had time to read this over a few times to make corrections, so I might be adding something later. Well, have a nice day ♥
