Still with the buildings like a giant house, but this time it was one of my save-the-world dreams. Only I didn't get that far.
Basically, the humans in the house had been corralled into a small suite of rooms while the rest of the vast building was taken over by vampires. Given my phobia, you'd think this dream would have been scarier than it was. But I was known as a vampire killer, so they had mixed and slowed reactions to me. Part of their reaction was fear. They knew that if they came too close to me, I would kill them. Part of it was hunger- they desperately wanted to turn me as a morale blow to the humans; it would win the struggle for them neatly. Part of it was respect.
One of the things about the arrangement was that humans were free to walk in any room with the lights on, but when the lights went out the vampires had sway. Most of the humans were too scared to walk about, because lights are still controlled by switches in this house-maze-building, and it's easy hunting. I had a flashlight; the vampires knew it. I was on some sort of personal quest, which had been completed, and I got lost on my way back.
The vampires, one of their leaders, in fact, captured me, but not before I got my flashlight out and kind of cowed their flunkies. The woman (the leader) called a temporary truce- no biting, no killing, she'd let me go after some discussion if I put up the flashlight.
Fine. She took me to a room that the vampires were refitting for a huge party. There was glow-in-the-dark paint on the walls. Some folks were hauling in a turntable. Lots of gossip. Mostly they didn't recognize me, but when they did they stayed back.
The woman and I talked; I don't remember about what, mainly, but I distinctly remember the discussion ending with her saying, "We are afraid of you. I am afraid of you." and me looking her very close in the eye and saying, "Good." Then she took me to a crossroads (crosshallway?) and pointed left. She said that was probably the quickest way back, but she wasn't sure and she had to go. I went left.
