a; Life was exceedingly hard for a five-year-old inventor. It was even harder for a five-year-old older sister in the way that being a father is harder then being a fireman, or being a brother is harder then being a genius.
Which was quite coincidental, because Violet's three year old brother was a genius. He was aleady reading much more then she was, at higher levels then she was.
But the day that she'd been puzzling over a 4th grade level book about Nikola Tesla, and Klaus had come over to her... He'd sat in her lap the way Sunny did now, her chin on his shoulder as he read it to her.
It was the first time she decided that she didn't want anything unfortunate to happen to her brother.
b; Beatrice Baudelaire had often tried to do her daughter's hair, and no matter what she did the ribbons would slide out only seconds later. Finally, her mother slipped the ribbon from her own hair, and used it to tie the auburn locks out of her face once again.
It stayed.
