CHARACTER
Name:  Okami Cloud
Series: Original Character
Canon:  N/A
Age: 18

History: The half-elf, half-Celestial son of the late rulers of the Celestial Kingdom. His parents were murdered in the middle of the night when he was eleven. The High Council refused to allow the young prince to take the throne because of his age and they all felt he was not mature enough to take the throne, worried he would be murdered like his parents. Okami admitted that he wasn’t ready for the responsibility of leading the kingdom and politely accepted their decision. However, when there is no one seated on the Celestial Throne, the balance of power between their kingdom and the Demonic Kingdom is upset and the world was thrown into eternal night, until the next ruler can be crowned.

He was born with violet eyes, an uncommon trait among elves but an ill omen among the Celestial-seen as demonic and connected with the darkest of magic. Before the kingdom could discover this, his mother cast a spell on him that would keep his eyes a deep blue, saying it was only an illusion and some people could see through the magic veil if they looked close enough and their son would always have to be wary around the Celestial people who held so much value in the old myths. During royal ceremony where he was presented to the Kingdoms, the crown prince of the Demon Kingdom approached the young prince in his crib. Though King Robin was a little hesitant about allowing the Demon prince so close to his son, the queen merely smiled sweetly as the two princes. The Demon prince, Akito leaned over the infant, whispering, “I’ll always protect you, no matter what my parents say,” before producing a delicate silver chain from his pocket, a silver ring with a crimson gem set into the ring. The ring had been in the royal demon family for generations, back before any could remember, now only the planet held the secret whispers of the ring’s birth. Akito’s mother started to protest at this but the demon king held his hand up, silencing the woman. If the young prince could win over the Celestial kingdom with this little act, they could easily destroy them when the time came.

When he was old enough to write and draw, his mother discovered that he was left-handed, yet another bad omen among her people but she didn’t want to limit her son any more than she already had. When he began his education, she insisted on being his teacher, warning him not to let anyone outside of the palace know that he was left-handed.

During the summer of his fifth year, he was playing outside when he wandered too far from the kingdom, playing with his meager teleportation magic he managed to end up in demon territory, far from home. A group of rogue demons happened upon the child and ripped his wings from his back as soon as they cornered him. Before they could do any more to him, Robin’s first son-Haru, a half-demon living in the demon kingdom, appeared, scaring off the rogue group. Haru wrapped the young prince’s wounds enough to temporarily stop the bleeding while he returned him to the Celestial Palace. Nothing could be done to restore the prince’s wings; the demons had cleanly removed the wings from his bones. It was just another secret to be kept; further distancing him from the people he would one day rule. That day, the fragile treaty between the demonic kingdom and the Celestial kingdom was broken, even though the young princes had managed to maintain the friendship that they had formed during the royal ceremony. Okami tried to meet with the prince in secret but he refused to look at him each time, silently turning him away. To keep the demons from entering the Celestial Kingdom, large crystals were set around four points within the kingdom. When activated by the queen’s power, the crystals form a protective barrier around the kingdom that prevents demons from entering.

Six years later, the queen’s magic grew weak during a storm and assassins managed to enter through a weak spot in the barrier, descending upon the palace in the middle of the night and killing the king and queen in their sleep. Okami heard a quiet scream in his mind and jerked awake, feeling a pull coming from his parents’ room. He walked down the dark halls; the sound of the storm strangely muted even though the rain beat down harder. The door to his parents’ room was ajar-they never left it open. He hesitated before pushing the door open, a crack of lightning illuminating the gruesome scene within the room and the young prince screamed loud enough to wake the entire castle. Though the prince was not old enough to take his mother’s place on the throne, he was strong enough to power the crystals in his mother’s absence.

Three years after this, during a rainy night when Okami was returning home from visiting Haru in the demon kingdom, a masked demon attacked him, somehow able to pass through the barrier. Though he was startled, he had the presence of mind to summon his sword to block the initial attack. Through the fight, he couldn’t help but feel he knew the demon. The demon fought like his brother, far more skilled with a sword than he was. Okami tried to get his gun out but the demon knocked his sword from his hands, cutting across Okami’s chest and knocking him against a tree once he was off guard. He also knocked off his mask in the process and Okami looked up at him, horrified to discover that it was Akito. Before either of them could do anything, Haru shove Akito out of the way, grabbing Okami’s gun from the holster and aiming it at Akito’s head, warning him that he’d use it if he even breathed. He scooped Okami up and hurried him back to the palace to get healed. Okami said he didn’t blame Akito and knew that his parents were somehow behind it but Haru refused to listen to him and turned his back on the demon kingdom after that.

It was another two years before Okami saw Akito again, during the funeral for the demon king and queen. The demon was too ashamed to look at Okami and Haru kept glaring at him coolly. Okami walked over to him, even though his brother hissed at him and Akito stiffened a little, not wearing any emotions on his face. Okami showed him that he was still wearing the ring he’d given to him during the royal ceremony and he never gave up hope on him. They renewed the treaty between their two kingdoms.

Finally, during the summer of Okami’s eighteenth year, the High Council called him to their camber and said that the time had come from him to be crowned the new ruler. A ceremony was held where the rulers from all the other kingdoms came to witness the crowning, Akito given the honor of placing the crown on Okami. On that day, for the first time in years, the sun rose.

Okami’s body is fragile because of a disease his mother suffered from as a child but to make up for it, he insists that his brother train him every day so he doesn’t grow weak. He still has his limitations but he tries his best to overcome them while using as little magic as possible. The chain earring he wears on his left ear works to stabilize his erratic magic, Earth based magic and Celestial based magic an unstable mix in his world.

Personality: He’s a rather quiet and gentle, reserved young man, seen as a timid “perfect little angel” by many of the community, regardless of the many lies that surround him. However, he’s still a young man and as such, rather rambunctious and playful when the mood strikes him, considering he’s still a very young child by elvish rights. He can be a bit too trusting and often lets his guard down around good friends and when in comfortable situations but when he’s hurt, he bottles up his emotions and goes on the offensive. He can be very brutal during these times; using anything he can to verbally assault whoever hurt him, rarely resorting to physical violence. From a young age, he was groomed as a proper young gentleman, from tea ceremonies to horseback riding to etiquette befitting a prince in any situation that may come up. He has a strong sense of justice thanks to his late father and tries his best to make sure the people of his kingdom are happy, while knowing that it’s impossible to please them all. He has a strong, caring heart and hates to see people suffer but is often forced to turn a blind eye when it comes to the matters of other kingdoms because even suggesting a change could mean war. He’s deathly afraid of the dark, even now, though his imagination gets the best of him most of the time. He freezes up when he’s alone in the dark, his mind running through a million scenarios of what could possibly be waiting to creep up on him in the darkness. He’s gentle and soft spoken most of the time but when he feels passionately about something enough, though he gets really embarrassed after if he yells too much in the heat of the moment. He absolutely hates being teased and his entire face goes red (both from embarrassment and annoyance). Though he keeps a sweet smile on his face most of the time, his inner thoughts are a bit more solemn, a thousand regrets, blaming himself for things that he had no power to control. As soon as he knows that someone is nearby, he brings himself from his thoughts, no matter how deep he’d been lost. When he fights, he’s merciless and his face is expressionless, as if he’s losing parts of himself in the midst of battle, though he has no regrets after the battle but he tends to be cold and standoffish, as soon as someone speaks kindly to him, he cheers up again.

Third-Person Sample: [Okami lay sprawled in the middle of the forgotten town, staring up at the sky with a blank expression. One would think he died if it weren’t for his chest rising and lowering occasionally. How much time had passed since he fell back? Had he just…given up?

A soft smile tugged at the corners of his mouth and his eyes crinkled a little, a chilly breeze rolling through and playing with his hair. “At least there’s sunlight…” He frowned a little and sat up slowly, resting his arms across his knees, glancing around with a lost look. He stood suddenly, dusting himself off, hesitating for a moment as his fingertips brushed across the cold metal of his pistol. He frowned again, patting the gun gently, “Am I really going to have a use for this in a place like this?”

He blinked, laughing to himself, “I’m starting to talk to myself now…that can’t be a good sign…”]

First-Person Sample Journal Post: This place…the eerie breeze…it’s as if a thousand lost souls are screaming in my head, wanting someone…anyone to talk to…to save them…but it’s far too late for that. I’m too late…I’m always too…the stench…it’s familiar, almost comforting…
