Yeah, I stumbled across some comments that said that and I was kind of shocked. I don't ship Rose with people because I don't see Rose as her own character; I ship her because I love her so much. *shrug* And I view Rose the same way as you, lol. As you mentioned in one of your posts, Rose is the hero of S1 to me. =)
I won’t try and defend what Rose said to the Doctor in “Father’s Day.” Their fight was incredibly ugly. But I think I saw her smile outside the church differently than you did. I connected it to the Pete/Jackie fight that we (and Rose) had just witnessed. If I recall correctly, she starts smiling when she sees them kiss and make up. And then she hears the Doctor calling her name, and she grins. She’d thought her mum and dad’s marriage was perfect, and she was wrong. But what I think she learns, watching them, is that it didn’t have to be. And the same thing is true for her and the Doctor.
Ooh, now I have to go and rewatch that part! It's been awhile since I've seen it, so I was going by my memory. That's a great way of looking at it. =D
Actually, one of my favorite things about that episode is that Rose is the one who stops the pettiness. Am I missing something?
Looking at the transcript for School Reunion, SJS says, "Rose, can I give you a bit of advice?" and Rose replies, "I've got a feeling you're about to." SJS says, "I know how intense a relationship with the Doctor can be, and I don't want you to feel I'm intruding--" and they bicker a little more. I kind of thought SJS was trying to be a little more nicer to Rose, but Rose was kind of brushing her off. Then again, looking at the transcript, they have that little monster exchange and Rose says, "Listen to us. It's like me and my mate Shireen. The only time we fell out was over a man, and... we're arguing over the Doctor." So, yeah, Rose did extend the Olive Branch first! =D I'll go edit now!
