Friday and Saturday

Oct 25, 2009 09:27

I hosted the Indonesian students on Friday and Saturday. My buddy was so quiet. She would only speak when I initiate a conversation with her. The students went back to Jakarta yesterday at 8.00. I'm gonna miss them. I've grown very attached to two of them so it was hard for me to say goodbye to them. Good thing all three of us have facebook accounts though so we can find a way to communicate with each other. I heard that some students stayed behind at Singapore to join my school next year. New students!

I took my buddy to HortPark, Labrador Park, the Heartlands to experience the local culture and food, the History Museum, the Zoo and the Night Safari for the Halloween celebrations. Most of the other students who were hosted by my other SIngaporean friends went to only Vivo City and Sentosa. My teacher said that we provided the best hosting experience because we actually took them aorund to see the local culture and tourist attractions.

The Night Safari Halloween celebrations were not as scary as last year. Maybe it's because they had a fairy tale theme to it. They showed the terribly morbid and gory versions of Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mermaid,Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty,Snow White, Cinderella and Aladdin. The beast ended up scaring a zombie Belle back to her coffin, the Little Mermaid got her tail cut into fish meat by an undead fishmonger( which was satisfying to see for me. I hate Ariel with a burning passion ), Sleeping Beauty and Snow WHite were really zombies, Cinderella had a glass slipper on her forehead and Aladdin held his genie lamp with a severed hand on it. The celebrations were not as scary as last year's but they were definitely more gory.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I promised myself that I would do a little review of Suzumura Kenichi's first album,Becoming. I'm only going to review the new songs instead of all the songs that have been featured on his singles. So here it is.

2. becoming soon
~ A very short acoustic piece. Less than a minute long. However, the sound quality is rather poor as it sounds kinda muffled to me.
3. ROBOT
~A rather long song though nowhere as long as Atarashii Neiro. A lot of English words are used in this song but I can't seem to pick them up. Maybe it's because of the way Suzu-chan pronounces them. At first, this song didn't really get me. After listening to it for a few times, it began to grow on my. So yeah. This song will eventually grow on you after a few listens.
5. The whole world
~This is my favourite of the new songs in the album, tied with Sense of Wonder. It's very upbeat and catchy, like most of the characters   that Suzumura-san voiced( e.g. Demyx from Kingdom Hearts 2 and Lavi from D.Gray-Man). But somehow, everytime I hear this song, I get a very strange mental image of Demyx singing this song in the Organization's lounge. O_O; Maybe it's because it is the type of song that I can see him singing to. I love the last part of the song.
6.Butterfly
~What can I say about this song? It's so cute! A lot of Japanese bloggers said that this song is a love song. Would somebody be kind enough to translate the lyrics for me? This song is very relaxing and pleasing to the ears. It made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
9.Sense of Wonder
~One of my favourite songs in the album. It has a rock-ish feeling and is quite upbeat. I can see Demyx, Lavi and Zack Fair jamming out on this song because of their upbeat personalities( even though the one that Demyx showed might be a farce). But I think this song is a bit too similar to The whole world in terms of arangement with all the guitar riffs but that's just me.
11. Railway
~This song has a slow rock feel to it. Like ROBOT, the song will eventually grow on you. The beginning tune was awesome though even though it reminded me of Indonesian rock but again, that's just me.
12.Model Plane
~I love the chorus of the song. Like Butterfly, it gave me this warm feeling inside. The beginning starts off as rather slow then you reach the medium paced chorus. After that, the song just seems to get a little bit faster.
14. December Sky
~My second favourite of the new songs. It's so calming yet it gives me a rather poignant feeling. Suzu sounded very relaxed in this song. I can see Kamui from X and maybe that main character from Spiral singing it because of the relaxed pace.
15. Becoming
~The last track. An acoustic piece which is about one and a half minutes long. Every time I listen to this, I see Demyx on the beach playing this song on his sitar( even though a sitar cannot make noises like that.) It's so calm and relaxed. I listen to this to song to chill out every time I worry about my examination results.

Final verdict: In overall, this was a great album. It's a real shame that they did not include Sketch. I love that song waaay more than Compass. They also did not include Persona. I know many people who prefer Simple Future to that one but I prefer Persona. The new songs will eventually grow on you.
