Grrr...

I have recently been listening to the very, very wonderful Joanna Newsom who is a singer/harpist/pianist and is incredibly good. She has a strange, childlike voice which means that not everyone can listen to her music without it annoying them, but her songs just grab me. Her first album is called Milk-Eyed Mender and I can't recommend it enough. I've only been in possesion of her second album (called 'Y') for a day so can't really comment yet.

And you have probably heard at least one of her songs - "This side of the blue" is used in that weird Orange ad you see at the cinema about the New York blackout and how things have to switch off to switch on etc.

Anyways, I found out about an hour ago that I missed her playing at City Halls 1 week ago with the Northern Sinfonia. So raging. This happens to me a lot. I must make better use of ticket master. Apparently members of B&S, Mogwai, Franz Ferdinand and the awesome Arab Strap (RIP) were there so at least I'm in good company being a fan.

In other news, had lovely birthday celebration with meamna in Beanscene last night with all the usual suspects, and some new suspects who were all great fun. I'm so in favour of the whole Beanscene BYOB thing...it makes so much sense and it's lovely to be able to talk to people rather than shouting over Razorlight being played rather loudly. Happy Birthday Shivvy!!

Friday night (work night out) was fun to begin with but progressed to fairly disastrous very quickly. Men are stupid, and that's all I'm saying, except that I'm dreading going to work tomorrow. meamna made a comment last night about real hospitals being scarily like Gray's Anatomy and I can only concur. Except that non of my consultants look like McDreamy. More's the pity.

In the meantime, I'm going to bed.
