"Do you want to be a Polyester Bride? Or do you want to hang your head and die?"

Question of the day:Here in the U.S., if you were ever to elope on a whim, you'd probably head to Las Vegas, right? Wedding chapels on the strip, faux!Elvis -- there's a whole culture involved. But if you were to decide to elope in Europe -- let's say you're from London, for argument's sake *grins* -- is there someplace specific that you'd go? Rome ( Read more... )

Ah... Personal plans then :P

*laughs* I'm not getting married anytime soon -- much to my parents' dismay.

Elopements often go to some Carribean Island. Romance and all...

Hmm. It's a good idea , but the amount of travel time to the Carribean would give at least one half of the pair far too much time to reconsider. ^_-

I'd go to Florence, Verona or Edinburgh. But Florence is definitely leading.

Not, of course, that this means anyone in DB is getting married. Really. ^_-

I have to agree with Simon, that this must be for personal reasons then.

As romantic as eloping sounds: no. It's not. ^_- Just my lame attempt at reverse psychology. "No, no. This isn't a future DB plot point. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain..."

It used to be Scotland. At least, it was back in Jane Austen's time.

Oh, Gretna Green... I think that if they were in London they'd probably go there. It's closer, cheaper, and has lovely romantic/historic associations. Plus, for some reason, getting married over the anvil seems a very wizard-y thing to do. Why? I do not know.

I don't think the tradition ever really stopped, otherwise they wouldn't have tried to legislate against it in the 1940s. Not that it worked...

p.s. i want to marry miles toooooo!

Ooo. This sounds like it has some serious potential. Do you know anything about the location, traditions, etc?

Dude, 1) I LOVE that song. I've been falling in love with it steadily ever since I downloaded it from Clefnote.

and 2) Naples. Overlooking that whole Mafia thing--I'd find a sunny spot near Naples and just sail around the coast for a few days. *sigh*

I LOVE that song.

The Liz Phair one? ^_^ I love that song, too. I just wish I still had the CD.

Oh, I like that. For a possible impromptu honeymoon or something, maybe. I just wish I knew more about Italy. *dreads research*
