From that "first paragraph" meme I posted a few weeks ago...
On the first day of school that September, Veronica walked up, tilted her head just slightly to the right and asked him for a favor.
"What? No hello?" he said, leaning against a locker and looking her up and down. "No 'what did you do on your summer vacation, Weevil'?"
She sighed. "What did you do on your summer vacation, Weevil?"
"Nearly threw your boyfriend off a bridge, for one thing..." [

It only took two days for Mara to decide that she really hated Bowre. The planet was too hot, the air sticky with humidity and heavy with some sort of pollen that made her sneeze. She was waiting for Karrde -- again. She’d very nearly had her fill of that over the past fifty hours or so. Wisps of hair had begun to frizz around her face. She reached up and pushed them away from her sticky skin. He’d checked them into an uncharacteristically nice inn in the capital city, then promptly disappeared on some mysterious errand. It happens after Angel fires them all. It happens without either of them really noticing at first. It happens despite the fact that Cordelia swore it never would. After Doyle, she tells herself the morning after it really happens, she ought to know better. [

He is, quite possibly, the most aggravating man she's ever met.
If not the most aggravating, then at the very least he's in the top four. He's also drooling onto her shoulder as their plane taxis away from the terminal at Sea-Tac. He's out cold, his breathing shallow and even, from the pain pills the doctor had prescribed before they left Bellingham.
It's her own fault he's here with her; she really ought to have known better. But the idea of him rolling around in the back of that van with a broken leg, the whole way back to D.C. ...Well, it would have been just stupid, and she would have thought so no matter who it had been. [

If there's a character or pairing you'd like to see, the meme is still
ongoing.
