Levar and the Troy Police Dept.
I understand that asking for help via myspace is a bit ridiculous but honestly I don't know what else to do. . .I'm asking for your input. Some of you might know something that I don't. . .a direction to strear me in. . .
Here's my situation:
Earlier this month on a Saturday night my friend's and I were leaving a bar when a black man rode up to a female friend of mine and proceeded to spit racial comments directed toward our group of friends. She began arguing with him and he started to push her around. There was a distance of approximately 100 feet bewtween my friends and I and Emily. I saw what was happening and ran up to them and told the man to leave. We began arguing and the man started pushing me. I pushed back and he punched my in the face. This started a war. My friends ran up to protect my friend and I. The man called for friends who came to his aid. There was a lot if fighting. This man and his friends made several threats to my group of friends saying they had guns and knives that they would "stick us" with. The fighting enused for a total of at least an hour before we managed to fight our way up three block to the main section of downtown Troy. The Troy police department came in full force. My female friend and I were arrested for disorderly conduct for attempting to inform the police of the goings on (I was also histerically crying; the fact that this man started a fight about race truly upset me). The man who started the fight was also arrested for disorderly conduct. My friend was mishandled by the police and suffered bruises and possibly a sprang to one of her wrists.
The police did not arrest the man, Levar Murray, for assualt. They let him leave the police station before us. Not only had he assaulted two females but he also had the appearance of a crack head wearing only a t-shirt on a very cold night, sweating with eyes bugging out.
My friend and I made our appearance in court and were given time to find lawyers as we did not qualify for public defenders. Levar sat next to us in the court room and attempted to talk to us. He asked if we could wait for him and give him a ride to the bus stop. When we left he followed us to the elevator still attempting to talk to us. He claimed that his friend hit me, not him.
Levar plead guilty to his disorderly conduct charge and stated that it didn't matter anyway because he would be returning to court later that afternoon for trial and possibily leaving for federal prison for prior charges.
A story in The Record newspaper today reports that Levar Murray was aressted for holding up the Troy Pork Store Wednesday morning:
"Levar Murray, 28, of 72 Frist St. in Albany, allegedly struck the woman and held a handgun to her head during the robbery. He was charged with assault, criminal use of a firearm and a second-degree criminal possesion of a weapon, all felonies."
Levar and two other men were held responsible. Two female workers were assaulted, one suffered a broken nose, a brusied face and scratches.
After hearing this news my frustation level with Levar and the Troy Police Department soared and I decided to attempt once more to press charges against Levar for assault.
At the police station this evening a police officer began taking my statement. I told him everything that happened and he was displeased but not by the events I was telling him about but by the fact that I was there making a statement. He and another officer looked back into their arrest records book and noted that we all had been arrested. He then told me that because Levar was already arrested for disorderly conduct that he would not continue taking my statement. I told him that I was pressing charges for assault not disorderly conduct. He basically said that they were one and the same and folded up my statement.
And here I am now writing to all of you. . .I cannot afford a lawyer and do not qualify for a public defender. I plan to visit the DAs office tomorrow and request a meeting with her or one of her assistants. If I cannot meet with either I will send her a letter.
What else can I do? How do I go about this? What are my options?
So frustrated with terrible people and corrupt police.
